Insight: We live in a culture obsessed with solving. There's an app for everything, a productivity hack for every bottleneck, a self-help framework for every struggle. So when something doesn't work the way we want—a relationship that's complicated, a job that feels meaningless, a persistent anxiety—our instinct is to diagnose it, fix it, optimize it. But Kierkegaard's point cuts against this: some of life's most important dimensions aren't problems waiting for solutions. They're simply what it means to be alive. The shift here is subtle but radical. When you stop treating your existence as a project to perfect, you actually notice what's happening. That difficult conversation with a friend becomes less about "solving the conflict" and more about really being present in it. Your doubts and fears stop feeling like bugs to eliminate and start feeling like part of the texture of being human. This doesn't mean giving up on genuine improvement.
