George C. Marshall was an American military leader and statesman who served as the Chief of Staff of the United States Army during World War II. He is best known for his role in orchestrating the Marshall Plan, which provided aid to help rebuild Western Europe after the war. Marshall was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 for his contributions to post-war peace and security.
