Fatigue makes cowards of us all. — Vince Lombardi

Fatigue makes cowards of us all.

Author: Vince Lombardi

Insight: There's a reason tired people make terrible decisions. When you're exhausted, not only does your body feel heavier, but your mind gets smaller too. That big project you were excited about suddenly feels impossible. The conversation you need to have with a friend starts feeling like too much. You convince yourself to wait until tomorrow, or next week, or never. Fatigue doesn't just drain energy—it drains courage. What makes this observation so sharp is that we rarely blame tiredness for our hesitation. Instead, we tell ourselves stories about why something is too risky, too difficult, too unlikely to work. We reframe cowardice as wisdom or caution. But often we're just tired. A good night's sleep, a real break, or even a walk sometimes transforms that impossible task into something we're actually willing to try. The flip side matters too: the people who accomplish difficult things often aren't braver than everyone else. They're just better at protecting their energy. They know that depletion is the enemy of courage, so they don't wait until they're running on empty to make important moves. Rest isn't lazy—it's tactical.

Luckily this does not apply to me at all. I stay completely calm and collected even when I'm tiered or hungry. 😜
