It’s your life; you don’t need someone’s permission to live the life you want. Be brave to live from your heart.

Author: Roy T. Bennett

Insight: We spend so much time waiting for invisible permission—from parents, from friends, from the vague sense of what we're "supposed" to do. The permission almost never comes, because the people around us are usually too caught up in their own lives to give it. Meanwhile, we're holding ourselves back, smaller and quieter than we actually want to be. The harder part isn't recognizing that you don't need permission. It's actually believing it. Your gut knows what it wants—the weird hobby, the career change, the friendship you want to nurture, the version of yourself you keep locked away. But there's a gap between knowing you're allowed and actually being brave enough to claim it. That gap is where most people stay stuck. They intellectually get it; they just don't feel it enough to act. What makes this different from generic "follow your dreams" advice is the emphasis on living from your heart rather than your head. Your logical brain will always find reasons to wait—it's not the right time, you're not ready yet, what if it fails? Your heart doesn't care about perfect conditions. It just knows what matters to you right now. The brave part isn't the big gesture; it's the daily choice to let yourself want what you want, without negotiating or apologizing for it.

The gap between knowing and feeling

We spend so much time waiting for invisible permission—from parents, from friends, from the vague sense of what we're "supposed" to do.
