Safety isn't the same as purpose

There's comfort in staying put. A safe harbor means no storms, no unexpected rocks, no risk of sinking. But notice how this logic gets reversed the moment you actually need to go somewhere. A ship that never leaves port isn't protecting itself—it's just slowly rotting at the dock, its purpose gathering dust alongside it.

We do this with our lives constantly. We stay in jobs that feel secure but leave us restless. We avoid conversations or changes because the known danger feels safer than unknown possibility. We tell ourselves we're being smart, being careful. But there's a difference between prudent caution and using safety as an excuse to hide from what we're actually here to do. The ship wasn't built with a sturdy hull and a compass so it could watch other ships sail.

The harder part isn't recognizing this in theory—it's accepting that real navigation means real risk. You might encounter storms. You might have to course-correct or weather something you didn't anticipate. But staying permanently docked, insulating yourself from all uncertainty, guarantees a different kind of loss: the life you could have lived.
