Beauty means nothing without function

We've all felt the frustration of a beautifully designed app that's impossible to navigate, or a sleek piece of furniture that wobbles or breaks after a week. This quote cuts through that gap between looking good and actually working. When Jobs says design is how something works, he's talking about the invisible architecture beneath the surface—the logic, the flow, the moment-to-moment experience of using something.

The tricky part is that most of us have been trained to separate aesthetics from function, as if they're two different departments. But they're not. A button that looks inviting but requires three taps to actually do anything isn't well-designed, no matter how beautiful it is.
