Ambition is a season.

Insight: We often treat ambition like a permanent state—either you have it or you don't. But this quote captures something truer: ambition ebbs and flows. Sometimes you're fired up, chasing goals relentlessly. Other times you're in a quieter season where you're just showing up, maintaining, existing. Both are normal. The mistake is assuming the low season means you're broken or unmotivated. Think about how your energy shifts throughout a year, or even a month. January feels different from June. A new job or relationship can reignite drive that's been dormant. Burnout or grief can temporarily flatten your ambition, even when you care deeply about your goals. These rhythms aren't failures—they're just part of how humans actually work. The liberating part of seeing ambition as seasonal is letting go of guilt during the quieter stretches. You don't need to force intensity year-round. Some seasons are for pushing hard; others are for rest, learning, or simply getting through. Respecting your own rhythm, rather than fighting it, might actually be what keeps ambition sustainable over a lifetime.
