I am delighted with the strong vote I have received. My message of positive leadership, patriotism and commitment clearly was resonating with tens of thousands of ordinary Irish people.

When authenticity becomes magnetic

There's something quietly powerful about a leader noticing what actually moved people to show up. It's easy to assume you won the argument or had the slickest campaign, but Higgins zeroes in on something simpler: ordinary people recognized something genuine. They weren't voting for a brand or a catchphrase. They were responding to a tone—one that believed in something beyond winning.

That distinction matters because we live in an age of endless messaging and strategic positioning. Everyone claims to represent "real people" or "common sense," but most of it feels hollow. What Higgins captures here is rarer: the moment when someone's actual values—the way they think about duty, about what a community owes itself—lands with people who've heard enough empty promises. They're not voting for perfection. They're voting because they sense someone actually believes what they're saying.

The slightly unsettling part is that this kind of clarity can come from anywhere across the political spectrum. It's not about left or right; it's about whether people can feel the integrity behind the words. In a world drowning in performative leadership, that authenticity becomes almost magnetic. People hunger for it precisely because it's so rare.
