Readiness is a feeling, not a prerequisite

There's a sneaky voice in most of us that says we need one more thing before we start—more confidence, more money, more experience, better timing. We tell ourselves we're being smart and cautious, but often we're just afraid. The truth is, readiness is mostly a feeling, and feelings are terrible judges of timing. You'll never feel completely prepared to ask for that raise, start that project, or have that difficult conversation. There will always be one more reason to wait.

This matters because waiting for perfect conditions is actually a choice we're making, not something that's happening to us. The people who end up writing the book, launching the business, or changing their lives rarely felt ready beforehand. They felt nervous, uncertain, half-prepared—and they did it anyway. Readiness usually comes after you've started, not before. You learn the skill by attempting it, gather courage by taking the leap, discover what you're capable of only after you've committed.

The real risk isn't failing at something you're not quite ready for. It's looking back years later and realizing you were always waiting, always had excuses, always believed readiness was a thing that would someday arrive like a package in the mail. It won't. So the question isn't whether you're ready. It's whether you're willing to be unready.
