Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.

Insight: We live in an age where it's tempting to think a better app or device is the answer to every problem. If kids aren't engaged, buy them tablets. If learning is struggling, invest in the latest software. But anyone who's actually spent time with young people knows that no screen can replace a person who genuinely cares about bringing them together and pushing them forward. The real magic in a classroom—or anywhere people are learning—comes from human attention. A teacher who remembers your name, who notices when you're lost, who finds exactly the right moment to challenge you or encourage you, who makes you feel like your effort matters: that's what changes things. Technology can amplify that, sure. A video can explain a concept, a device can connect kids who couldn't otherwise collaborate. But the spark comes from a person invested in their growth. This matters beyond school too. In teams, families, and communities, we often default to thinking better tools will solve engagement problems. Sometimes what's actually needed is someone willing to show up consistently and create the conditions where people want to work together. The tool is secondary. The person paying attention is everything.
