Georg Lichtenberg was a German physicist, philosopher, and satirist, born on July 1, 1742, in Göttingen. He is best known for his work in experimental physics and as the first person to describe the phenomenon of electrical discharges in dielectric materials, which later became known as "Lichtenberg figures." Lichtenberg was also notable for his witty aphorisms and essays, contributing significantly to German literature and thought.
