Sam Houston was an American military leader and politician, best known for his crucial role in the Texas Revolution and as a key figure in the founding of the Republic of Texas. He served as the first and third President of Texas and was later a U.S. Senator and Governor of Texas. Houston's leadership at the Battle of San Jacinto helped secure Texas independence from Mexico in 1836.
